                    Early years in Europe

     -  born in Graz, Austria, raised in Canada; after high school returned to Austria

     - 1964 Art College Linz and Academy of Arts in Vienna

  1. -     1966 formed the folk group Jack’s Angels (modelled after Peter, Paul & Mary)

  2. -      who were signed to Amadeo Records, Vienna, and produced 4 albums;

  3. -     Believe In A World, Restless, Our Fantasy’s Kingdom & Looking Back

        plus a variety of singles, a number of which hit the charts

  1. -    - tours throughout Austria, Germany, Holland & Switzerland with guest

  2. -      appearances on a variety of TV and radio shows plus a 1/2 hour profile film

  3. -      for Austrian ORF TV.

  4. -   -  at the height of their career, the group disbanded and Jack stayed on with the

  5. -      record label pursuing a successful solo career with a number of hits such as

  6. -      ‘Catherine’, ‘Train Station Blues’, ‘The Prince In Love Is Me’.

     -  three solo albums for Amadeo Records: The Way I Want To Live,

        My Ship and Toronto, which was produced by Alexis Korner in London,

        and featured tracks with Mick Taylor of the Rolling Stones on slide guitar

     - 1969 transferred to progressive German label, Kuckuck Records Munich, producing

  1. -      three more albums: Buffalo Brian, Newborn Man and the self-titled, Jack Grunsky

  2. -    - 1974 released his seventh solo album, Icarus

  3. -    - throughout his 10-year stay in Europe, Jack toured extensively, performing in major concert

  4. -      halls and music festivals and numerous radio and TV appearances

  5. -    - 1971 -73 he hosted his own radio show 'Folk With Jack' for Austria’s ORF and was also

  6. -      commissioned to compose and produce music for 3 children’s TV musicals for ORF; ‘Der Rauchfangkehrer auf

  7. -      dem Regenbogen’, ‘Traumauto # 5’, & ‘Hans Im Glück’


                     Back home to Canada

     - 1974 returned to Toronto to his ‘Canadian’ musical roots

     - 1978 collaborated with record producer Chad Irschick and released The Patience Of A Sailor 

     - 1977-79 - concert tours back to Germany and Austria with his Canadian band

     - in Ontario Jack was a regular at coffee houses and folk festivals

  1. -   - continued music studies at Toronto Royal Conservatory of Music with Sam Dolin, received Canada Arts Council

  2. -     Grant to further studies in piano with Darwin Aiken and vocal coaching with Gloria Ferrer.


                 Music for children

     - 1981 conducted a music program for the Toronto Island Montessori School

  1. -     four years of teaching music and working with young children nurtured a change in focus, pouring his energies

  2. -     and creativity into producing a vast repertoire of children’s songs and instrumentals

     - 1989 recorded his first children’s CD Imaginary Window, followed by Children Of The Morning

     - signed to BMG Music Canada and released JUNO Award winning Waves Of Wonder, followed by

       Dream Catcher, a family concert video; Celebrate! Jack Grunsky Live  and  Jumpin’ Jack

     - tours of schools, children’s festivals, family concert series, symphony shows and Early Childhood

       conferences in Canada, USA, Europe and a three-week engagement in Cape Town, South Africa

     - 2000 released a series of indie recordings, licensed by Casablanca Kids Inc. his second JUNO Winner

        Sing & Dance, followed by Playground, Jack In The Box #1, Jack In The Box #2Like A Flower To The

        Sun & third JUNO Winner, My Beautiful World

      - 2002 produced fellow children's artist, Fred Penner’s JUNO Award winning Sing With Fred


                     Recent children’s CD’s & other recording projects

      - 2008 released another children’s CD Catchy Tune

      -  mixed jazz recordings by the Toronto based Nehring, Koller, Braid trio

      -  mixing and co-production for The Heillig Manouevre jazz quartett

      - 2006 Jack released his first NuJazz instrumental recording titled, Coastlines

      - 2008 he released a follow-up ‘folk/new-age/jazz/bossa nova’ CD titled Room To Move

      - 2009 produced his daughter Cosima’s children’s CD,The Whole World Sings WIth Me

      - 2009 released his first children’s CD in French Partout où les enfants chantent

      - 2011 released a new ‘father/daughter’ recording project with Cosima titled: Hoppin’ Socks

      - 2012 release of a 3rd NuJazz instrumental recording project titled: Façade

  1. -    - 2013 release of a 4th NuJazz instrumental recording project titled: Miami In Mind

  2. -    - 2015 release of 5th adult contemporary CD of newly-penned songs titled: Stirring Up The Dust

  3. -    - 2017 release of new CD for children titled: THEATRO MUPPILOO

  4. -    - 2018 release of new CD for adults: Life Boat



       Jack continues to perform regularly in concert both in public and in schools
